What is an essay?

An essay usually consists of something that is not lengthy and from the authors point of view. It can be an informal essay

or a very structured one for educational purposes. To craft my personal essay I brainstormed and bulleted my main ideas at

first and then tried to organize them for my essay. Although this type of essay is a lot of information at once, it is still

pertinent to have sentence structure and appropriate transitions throughout the essay. I believe the key to essay is to

develop a theme early on and try to stick with that in order to stay on task and not to ramble.

  1. When writing my personal narrative I found my self taking the same steps as you did. Brainstorming and using bullet points to help organize my thoughts was the best way I could think of to look at all my information before I put it in an essay format. I found my self writing a lot of different things about myself, therefore I though it was kind of hard to stay away from rambling! I hope it wasn't comparable to the "Letter from Dan"!

  2. Welcome, Cassie-

A good process, indeed! Thanks for sharing. As a side note, you should probably try to preview your posts before you post them. This post has some weird formatting issues, which might be the result of cutting and pasting (?). Just a heads up!

    Best,

  3. I do agree with your process of developing a theme early on. It helps a lot to be mindful of your focus as your write. The brainstorming and bulleting helped me a lot in constructing my personal essay as well!
